Letter from Nicole and Ian Hockley
On December 14, 2012, our son Dylan Hockley was in his first-grade classroom when he was murdered alongside nineteen other students and six educators in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.
Dylan was a beautiful 6-year-old boy. He had an infectious laugh and was passionate about the moon, garlic bread, the color purple, and computer games.
Dylan had autism; he struggled to communicate his needs or follow complex instructions, which meant he could too easily be excluded from activities.
We established Dylan’s Wings of Change to foster acceptance, inclusion, and empathy for all children.
