The 2016 theme for this country wide event was a "Chance to Dance!" to foster inclusion for people of all abilities. The National Dance Week Foundation teamed up with Rhythm Works Interactive Dance and Dylan's Wings of Change to expand and promote access to adaptive dance. A portion of the proceeds from the event helped fund development of the Wingman for Dance program guide. As part of the Be The Change call to action in 2017, dance studios across the nation are invited to host Dance-a-thons for their communities.

The Wingathlon is a novel take on existing community race formats. Participants are given the opportunity to "earn their wings" through running, walking or a highly challenging duathlon. Good food, great prizes, giveaways and community togetherness are the hallmark of this unique day.

The 2nd Annual Wingathlon was held in Newtown, Connecticut on Saturday May 7th 2016 Read our blog for the report and photos from the inaugural event. Due to scheduling issues the Wingathlon will not be held in 2017. We hope to return in future years.
