A Reebok Ragnar Relay is an event like no other, a chance for ordinary people to achieve the extraordinary. To succeed on the two-hundred-mile course, team members must use their strengths to support each other while their own abilities are tested. They must prepare and train for the race and trust others to do the same.

In the spring of 2013 a team of runners and martial artists from Extreme Fitness in Newtown came together to train for and complete the Cape Cod Ragnar Relay. Calling themselves Dylan’s Wings of Change, the team announced they were “Running for Dylan”, thus establishing a commitment to training hard and supporting the new created Memorial Fund for Dylan Hockley. Despite their passion for fitness, no team member had ever tackled a 24-hour relay the likes of Ragnar, and were unprepared for the exhaustion, emotion and intensity of the event.

Through the generosity of friends, family and corporations, Dylan’s first Ragnar team raised an amazing $25,000. The foundation formed from the memorial fund was formally named Dylan’s Wings of Change, honing its focus on programs that would enable people with autism and related conditions to reach their full potential.

In 2014 the foundation fielded five teams in that year’s Cape Cod Ragnar Relay. Veteran runners returned joined by many new recruits. Some rookies had never run more than a 5K, but proudly achieved 12 or more miles at the event. Even as logistics and training grew more complicated, this expanding group managed to recapture and amplify the team spirit and feeling from the prior year. Dylan’s Wings of Change was enabled to make its first grants to support inclusive sports programs, due expressly to the momentum and fundraising achieved by these committed runners and drivers.

In the past three years, a further 28 teams have represented the foundation in this amazing event. The start line at Nantasket Beach is always awash with purple shirts. These teams combined have raised over $500,000, enabling the launch and explosive growth of the foundations Wingman program for schools, dance studios and sports clubs. Now, we need YOUR HELP!

Dylan's Wings of Change is fiscally sponsored by the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, a 501c3 registered public charity based in Newtown, CT
