New grants for Sports and Technology

March 28, 2016

In the first quarter of 2016, Dylan’s Wings of Change is honored to support two independent organizations making strides to helping children with autism and other special needs and disabilities.

D3 Sports and Recreation is a new non-profit dedicated to providing a safe and encouraging environment for individuals on the autism spectrum with opportunities to participate in sports and recreational activities regardless of their gender, cognitive, physical or emotional abilities. D3 Sports evolved from the Bronxchester Challenger League that started in 2014 offering spring and fall baseball for children with autism in the Bronx. Founder Lizette Hernandez and her team have now extended their program to include basketball to provide a year- round indoor and outdoor experience. The grant to D3 Sports was enabled by the generosity of attendees at the Winter Wings fundraiser held in New York City in January of this year.

Growing Up Green Charter School was founded in 2009 and has grown to a community of 700 students and their families in Queens, NYC. The school empowers children to be conscious, contributing members of their community through a rigorous curriculum and an engaging green culture. GUGCS serves over 120 students who have special educational needs and the grant from Dylan’s Wings of Change will enable subscription to online software that provides educators with a number of resources to help them deliver personalized instruction while also measuring student progress. In addition, the grant will provide access to after-school programs for students with special needs. The grant to GUGCS was enabled by generous donors supporting our 2015 New York Marathon Running for Dylan team.
