Towns connect for community event

September 11, 2016

On Saturday September 10th Ben’s Lighthouse hosted an Ice Cream Social at Reed Intermediate School in Newtown, CT. The event celebrated both the memories of summer and the return to school. The foundation invited local non-profits matching their mission of protecting, healing and developing our children for an afternoon of fun activities topped off with the most delicious ice cream flavors, donated by the renowned Ferris Acres Creamery. Hundreds of families attended the event on a glorious sunny afternoon.

Dylan’s Wings of Change attended and was represented by the student leaders from City Hill Middle School’s Wingman program. The 16 eighth grade “Squadron Leaders” staffed the information booth as well as the activity center where children could play giant games of Jenga © and Ker-Plunk © as well as corn-hole toss and marble runs. The information booth included a free raffle of water bottles, baseball hats and Frisbees. The students showcased their Wingman qualities, explaining to parents and children attending the booth all the aspects of the program at their school in Naugatuck.

We are very grateful to Ben’s Lighthouse for the invitation and the students and parents from City Hill who made the trip along I-84 and joined our two communities together.
